Dr. Schooley is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After internal medicine training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and infectious disease training at the National Institutes of Health and the Massachusetts General Hospital, he joined the Harvard Medical School faculty where he began working in HIV research in 1981. He was recruited to the University of Colorado in 1990 and served as Tim Gill Professor and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases through January 2005 when he relocated to the University of California, San Diego where he currently serves as Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases. His research interests are in the areas of HIV pathogenesis and therapy. He has served as Chair of the NIAID’s AIDS Clinical Trials Group and with Dr. Benson was responsible for its recent expansion into Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa.
